Into the Maze” is a multimedia knowledge of geometric styles that embraces the dazzle painting procedure made use of by the British in the Initial World War as a distraction. It results in an optical illusion for the enemy, creating it difficult for their U-boats to correctly calculate their course and target. Rehberger employed this procedure in his “Dazzle Ship London” when he repainted the 1918 warship HMS President a job commissioned by the Chelsea Faculty of Art and Design and style, Liverpool Biennial and Tate Liverpool.

Q: Your most current collaboration, titled “Into the Maze” with LG Electronics (LG) for Frieze London 2022, is an immersive gravity-defying labyrinth of sculpture and technology that difficulties viewers to “see and unsee” driven by LG’s OLED screens. Inspired by dazzle painting, a camouflage strategy created for battleships by British artists in the course of WW1. Can you tell us extra about the essence of “Into the Maze,” Why did LG’s OLED screens beautifully full your installation, how this collaboration came to be,
and what people can hope to working experience?

A: The LG OLED is a best instrument for the installation I made for Frieze. It all started out out with the rollable Tv from LG. I was asked if I could imagine applying the Tv for a sculpture. And considering that the rollable Tv has a very similar concept as my camouflage spaces, namely because it’s something that is manufactured to see or glimpse at a thing. But then it is also built that you shouldn’t see anything.

That is mainly because the Tv set is produced to roll down into the box, so you never see it any longer. Just as the dazzle camouflage I am employing is visually very powerful, but it is also produced to not see a little something. Which is why it is a camouflage. So by some means, the essential principles are incredibly related. The space is then type of an extension to the sculpture. And so it gets a sculpture itself.

A: It is tricky to say. It’s a bit like asking which is your favorite kid. But a job I had a good deal of entertaining with is “Haus an Linsen mit Spätzle “. It’s a sculpture that is a residence that I constructed for the “The Land “project of Rirkrit Tiravanija in Cheng Mai in, Thailand. It was originally crafted in Sweden for a present at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.

The idea was – and it was just executed like that – to ship the home to Thailand and establish it up once again there. Since the supplies that experienced been applied in Sweden are not the components that are functional for a dwelling in Thailand, piece by piece components of the household had to be replaced right up until in the stop the dwelling improved from a Swedish dwelling into a Thai property completely.
