Rivering

It is been practically 10 yrs due to the fact we very first interviewed Lisa Grossman for The Artist’s Road. See:  Voices of Encounter – Lisa Grossman. Now, on the situation of her 2023 exhibition, Rivering at Haw Modern day in Kansas City, we preferred to update her job interview with a couple of photos from her new work. The exhibition paintings mirror a really like affair with the Kansas River, informed by science and heritage and own explorations performed by kayak, plane and path, ensuing in an exquisite collection of oil and acrylic paintings. Also provided in the display are painted, laser-slash wood panels established from LiDAR map imagery elegantly revealing the river’s historic pathways.

The artist writes:  “This exhibition contains not only contemporary sights of the Kaw but also function that imagines the historical and evolving Kansas River Valley. These contain imagery of floodplain scrolls—scars left driving from old river channels—the ancestral Kaw Lake, and the proof of historic existence along the Kaw.”

“The oil paintings are generally sights of the river from over, working with footage I have taken from a small airplane flying at 500-1000 feet overhead or drone footage up to 400 ft in altitude. These paintings keep on my exploration of the ceaseless windings of sand and drinking water about time, the at any time-evolving channels unfurling across the riverbed. In them, I marvel at how the river gives up these kinds of dynamic and the natural way pleasing compositions.”
